Mets Sign Top Dominican Pitcher

According to Baseball America, the Mets have agreed to terms with Luis Mateo for $150,000, which should end a three-year process for the 21-year-old Dominican righthander with a mid-90s fastball to get signed. Mateo originally agreed to terms with the Giants on July 2, 2008, for $625,000. The Giants had that contract voided in August, however, when a physical revealed bone chips in his right elbow. Mateo was evaluated that September by Dr. Lewis Yocum, [...]

Farewell To A New York Icon

gal_gallofirst

Sadly, Bill Gallo, the beloved cartoonist and columnist for the New York Daily News, passed away yesterday. Gallo, who worked for the News for seven decades, died Tuesday from complications of pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. He was 88. “His death closed a chapter in the storied history of The News,” said Daily News chairman and publisher Mortimer Zuckerman. “The passing of our great cartoonist, colleague and friend Bill Gallo marks the end of an era.” It sure does. [...]

There Will Be No Dream Scenario With Reyes

Before I begin, former Mets clubhouse manager Charlie Samuels will be arrested after the NYPD concluded its investigation, but enough on that. As Jose Reyes keeps sizzling and as this season keeps chugging along it’s now quite clear that Reyes wasn’t having a one or two week hot streak – Reyes is having the best season of his career. The timing is right for the 27 year old as this is usually when many players start to [...]

Steve Cohen OUT of Mets Bidding

According to the NY Post, Hedge Fund billionaire Steve Cohen is out of the bidding for the minority stake of the Mets. In recent weeks the common report had Cohen as the front-runner for the minority stake of the team. However concerns over his trading activity have the Mets going in a different direction. Federal probes reveal inaccuracies in Cohen’s personal account at SAC Capital. This comes a little after a week that the Mets [...]

Dear Angry Mets Fan

Dear Angry Mets Fan,  First, how are you? I just wanted to get this off my chest because it seems like no matter what will happen down the road, you’ll cover your ears, close your eyes and scream to the heavens. At some point you’re going to need to realize that the franchise you’ve grown to love, is not going to get better overnight. I understand that you need instant gratification, and that 2006 could [...]

Kevin Burkhardt: Ike Davis Heading To NY For More Tests

According to SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt via Twitter, Ike Davis is flying to New York where he will meet with more team doctors. Not sure if he already had the MRI that the team discussed last night as there is no other offical word. Obviously, there are some concerns and I always brace myself when things like this start to unfold. Hopefully, this simply a precaution and nothing else, but as a Met fan, don’t blame me [...]

The Cory Vaughn Story

Cory Vaughn is rated as the the Mets 7th overall prospect in the farm system. He is the son of former big league slugger Greg Vaughn, and has followed in his fathers footsteps on the fast track to the major leagues. The 22 year old outfielder was the Mets 4th round pick out of San Diego State in the 2010 draft, 122nd overall. Cory Vaughn has good size at 6’3, and this kid has all [...]

Empty Seats

I always look forward to Opening Day, the beginning of the baseball season and this year was no different. Usually there is a big crowd and it’s cooler than you thought it would be, but it’s baseball – exactly what you missed all winter. This year was different. I expected that the Mets would not draw as much as other teams because of their ‘situation’, and that proved to be true. However, as I have [...]

From Left Field: Is Citi Field The Problem?

Yesterday, former Met right fielder Jeff Francouer released statements saying that the Mets should consider lowering the left field fence and bringing in the deep gaps of Citi Field. Of course, earlier in the offseason, Francouer, who is currently mashing with the Kansas City Royals, called Citi Field a “damn joke.” Internally, the Mets have discussed the idea of making the dimensions more hitter friendly in the ballpark. However, are the dimensions at Citi Field [...]
