Dillon Gee had the best outing of his career and Justin Turner knocked across the only run in the Mets 1-0 win against the Nationals, winning the series

Game Notes

Dillon Gee pitched like a veteran today, nearly tossing a no-hitter, but like every other Met to ever pitch in uniform, gave up a hit eventually. Dillon went seven and two-third innings, allowing two hits while walking three and striking out three. While the Nationals aren’t any laughing matter in terms of offense, Gee navigated them effortlessly it seems, not getting into any real trouble until the eighth inning when he walked one and gave up his second hit. This is a reassuring moment for the Mets, because if Dillon can become, as he has been compared to, Rick Reed what the Mets will get is a good pitcher for years to come.

Tim Byrdak came out for his one out, and actually got a righty out. While this shouldn’t be a course of action, it was done and luckily didn’t end horribly. K-Rod came out for the seventh time in nine days, and notched his seventh save in as many days, and his fourteenth on the season. K-Rod gave up one hit, allowed that runner to third and then got out of the inning. I wish a day off was in K-Rod’s cards, but unless the Mets/Yankees series involves three blowouts, it wont be happening.

The offense was held in check today, with Livan Hernandez scattering seven hits, but not getting away without a scar. After giving up a Josh Thole single and then a Jason Bay single in the same inning, Justin Turner decided that his ability to hit/hit with RISP would continue, knocking in what would turn out to be the winning run.

Jason Pridie – 0 for 2 with a walk and two strikeouts. Rude awakening or normalizing? I still hope he stays up here when Pagan returns.

Jason Bay – 3 for 4…just a good point hopefully, if he can carry this over and prove to consistently hit, and when it is important

Ruben Tejada – 2 for 3, but left three on base in a key situation. Still, the kid with the glove bigger then his bat is proving maybe his bat works somewhat.

Turning Point

K-Rod getting the last out of the game, with the runner on third, after a great pitched game on both sides.

Game Ball

Justin Turner. You aren’t going to make the second base job an easy decision when Ike returns. Murphy may be hitting the pine.
