Dickey Falters As Astros Rocket Past Mets 7-3

The Houston Astros rocketed three home runs to help beat the Mets 7-3 and take the second game of the weekend series at Minute Maid Park, ending the Mets three game winning streak. Game Notes R.A. Dickey put the Mets in an early hole when he allowed four runs to score in the first inning. He settled down after that until the sixth when he would serve up a couple of home runs. Dickey pitched [...]

Lamenting The Pitfalls of the OBP Craze

mmo fan shot

I just wanted to take the opportunity to note that it was REFRESHING to hear Keith Hernandez ( a man who knows a little bit about hitting) and Gary Cohen lament the effect that this OBP nonsense just may not be good for baseball in the long run, although not in those exact words. I’ve been saying that for the longest time. The discussion came up during Friday nights game vs. Houston These guys are [...]

Minor League Report: Familia with B-Mets, New Bisons Additions, Other Notables

Last week, my colleague Craig Lerner reported that the Mets promoted Jeruys Familia to Double-A Binghamton, as he was pitching really well in Port St Lucie for the St. Lucie Mets.  During his stint in St. Lucie,  Familia was 1-1, with a 1.49 ERA, 36 K’s, and 8 walks.  Now that Familia was called up to Binghamton, its time to see how Familia will hold up.  As I’ve said about Matt Harvey, when he (I’m now [...]

Is F-Mart Still A Viable Prospect?

Fernando Martinez is 22, still young enough in the sport where he’s graded most on potential. However, the past few years have been rough on his body and he’s lost more games due to injury than anybody his age should have the right to. At one time Martinez was part of a group of three Mets outfielders who were going to race their way to stardom. Lastings Milledge, Carlos Gomez and Martinez were three raw [...]

Enjoy Carlos Beltran While He’s Still Here

Carlos Beltran

Carlos Beltran has never been many things.  He’s never been the most popular player on the Mets.  He’s never been a media darling.  He’s never been the vocal rah-rah type of leader some teams have.  He’s never had to be any of these people because for years, Beltran has let his play on the field do the talking for him.  Yet he still has his critics. There are some fans who will never forgive him [...]

There Was A David Wright And Jason Bay Sighting In Houston

It was great to see Bay and Wright homer last night, but with the hopes that those home runs get these guys going, there is still no doubt that Jose Reyes, Ike Davis and Carlos Beltran have been by far the best hitters on the team so far this season.  Ike Davis is becoming a player teams game plan for, which is a great sign, as he is a huge part of the future.  But, [...]

F.Mart, Wright, Bay Spark Comeback, Mets Win 6-4

david wright

After a shaky outing from Dillon Gee, the Mets offense sparked a late rally to take the first game of the series, 6-4 against the Astros. Game Notes DIllon Gee was struggling today to consistently throw strikes, and continually got himself into and then out of jams. Gee allowed four runs in five innings on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Gee was walking a tight rope the whole game, and most of [...]
