Morning Grind: Hiring Practices, Daniels, Frenchy, 3 Amigos

Met Nation, We are a bit closer to locking down our GM, the first chip in the succession of moves that are supposed to take the Mets back to the promise land. A bit much? Well, that’s the way we should view these moves. Really. Nothing less than this should be expected by any of us, the Wilpons, or the players themselves. I think having that attitude has been understated for way too long in [...]

Why You Should Want Alderson

The New York Mets are an excellent comparison to the United States voter population in the 2008 Presidential Race. Whether you voted for one or the other, you know as well as I do that the theme of that race was “change.” Not only was it the theme then, but it’s the theme now with elections being held in about two weeks. Everybody wants to see “change,” because in one way or the other they [...]

Cliff Is Certain-Lee Worth Considering For The New Mets GM

Everyone expects that next season Cliff Lee will be pitching a lot more in Yankee stadium, as the ace of their rotation. And while it’s definitely a strong possibility, I’m not willing to write off the possibility that he can still remain with the Rangers or that the Mets are a contender for his services. Watching Cliff Lee dominate the Yankees last night was pure magic. I’m living my Mets dreams through the Texas Rangers right now and [...]

Win Some, Lose Some, Draw None

It has been well-documented that attendance at Citi Field suffered a significant drop-off from its inaugural season in 2009 to the just-completed 2010 season.   Last year, a total of 3,168,571 tickets were sold to Mets home games.   That number dropped to 2,559,738 in 2010. The significant drop-off in home attendance can be attributed to numerous things, such as the luster of the new ballpark wearing off and the team’s second consecutive losing season. [...]

Mets and Rodriguez Come To An Agreement

The Mets and Francisco Rodriguez have reached a settlement on the contract dispute and grievance filed against the Mets. Francisco Rodriguez has told the Players Association not to challenge the Mets decision to withhold his salary for the remainder of the 2010 season. In return, the Mets have told Rodriguez they will not seek to convert his contract to a non-guaranteed contract, and he will be removed from the Disqualified List. As such, the Mets do not [...]

Mets Need To Make More Changes

The Mets make 2 important changes by firing Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel.  Not much has happened since.  As the Mets take their sweet time looking for a general manager there are still a lot more changes that need to be made. 1) The Ballpark: Citi Field is just too big! I know we’ve been saying that for the last 2 seasons but the Wilpons refuse to bring in the fences.  All you look at [...]

K-Rod Will Pitch For Venezuela In Winter Ball

Updated Post 3:45 PM According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez will play Winter Ball and join Los Tiburones de La Guaira in the Venezuelan League in November. Hard to say if this is a good thing or bad. On the plus side it could give us an indication that he is healthy, but on the negative side it’s just more wear and tear on an arm that seems to tire [...]

Will Alderson Or Daniels Be The Best Choice For The Mets?

The Mets have a second interview scheduled this week for Sandy Alderson, who is the only candidate so far with a second interview planned. He is the front runner, and arguably the name with the most potential impact. The Mets are asking about Texas’ Jon Daniels, who is a hot property, but Alderson has done it consistently and I believe would bring the highest degree of respectability to the organization. What the Mets need now [...]

K-Rod…Welcome…Back?

Years ago, Julio Lugo hit his wife in his own home, and was promptly released by the Houston Astros. At the time, he was a major prospect with MLB playing time and a promising future. Fast forward to the 2010 Mets and you have an established closer publicly (essentially) assaulting a man nearly twice his age, stirring up rumors and hidden claims of domestic violence to his girlfriend, and to boot tearing muscles in his [...]

Morning Grind: GM Quota, K-Rod, Greinke, Berkman

Good Morning, Met Nation. Get your grind on. GM Search-A-Thon It’s hard to believe that the GM search is going into late October. I thought that Alderson was and is the best fit.  Some people would call this “due diligence” but there are some negatives. We’ll touch more on this in Wednesday’s Grind. In this case with the team being what it currently is, the quicker the right candidate is hired, the quicker that the structure [...]
