For all you hopeful Mets fans that want to see the Mets go after Cliff Lee, check out the following report.

According to a post from Andrew Marchand of ESPN, some Yankee fans’ treatment of Cliff Lee’s wife at Yankee Stadium might not help the Yankees’ recruitment of one of the game’s top left-handed pitchers.

During the AL Championship Series games in New York between the Yankees and Rangers, fans were extremely rude to Kristen Lee, spitting and throwing beer in her direction and shouting obscenities, according to USA Today.

It is no secret that the Yankees will make a serious run at signing Lee when he becomes a free agent after the season, and many believe they will go as high as 6 years/$150 million for him.

However, theirs now a good chance that this incident may keep Lee in Texas where he will be close to his home in Arkansas.

“The fans did not do good things in my heart,” Kristen Lee said, according to the newspaper. “When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it’s hard not to take it personal.”

Kristen Lee was sitting in the visiting family section of Yankee Stadium, where it was assumed they would be safe.

It will be interesting to see how Cliff Lee goes forward and if he would still be willing to negotiate with the team whose fans gave his wife a rude awakening to the fan experience at Yankee Stadium.

I’m not sure that the Mets will make any attempt to go after Cliff Lee this offseason. That said I will not rule anything out because I will not presume to know what moves the next GM will have in store for us. I can’t wait to hear who that new GM will be, and no matter the choice, I’ll be happy just the same.

I am very curious about what MMO readers think about Cliff Lee in a Mets uniform, so please sound off.
