Mike Pelfrey Is Open To A Contract Extension
According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Mike Pelfrey is open to a contract extension with the Mets. “I would be interested,” Pelfrey said about the possibility of a contract extension. “They’d have to bring it up, but I’m sure we’ll explore it. I’m definitely open to it.” Pelfrey is still under Mets control until 2014 and is arbitration eligible after this season. So far, the Mets have not approached Pelfrey about an extension and nobody expects them to at [...]

Through these four starts, Gee has thrown four quality starts, giving up only six runs in 27 innings of work (a 2.00 ERA). Though his first two starts were against the lowly Nationals and Pirates, the last two were against the potent Braves and the Phillies. Looking forward, [...]

Oliver Perez Situation May Reveal If A New GM Leads To Actual Change
Andy Martino of the Daily News reports that Oliver Perez has asked the Mets for permission to play winter ball in Mexico and that the front office is discussing the idea. The Mets will likely allow Perez to play, a source said, but are looking into the legal ramifications. When a veteran with a long-term contract participates in winter ball, there are liability issues to work out, such as who is responsible in the event [...]

Two Rivals Going In Opposite Directions
Unless the Mets discover a sense of pride and their offense this weekend, it is conceivable the Philadelphia Phillies will celebrate winning the NL East in front of their eyes. In 2007 and 2008 the Mets collapsed and were eliminated on the final day of the season. Last year was lost from June on. This year, from their dugout, the Mets can watch their rivals celebrate success, something they haven’t been able to do since [...]

Jon Daniels Staying Put As Rangers GM
On Friday I posted via Twitter that Jon Daniels will be staying put as the general manager of the Texas Rangers. [tweeted]http://twitter.com/MetsMerized/status/25425494372[/tweeted] That information came from two people I spoke to who were close to Daniels. They told me he was looking forward to working for Nolan Ryan, was proud of what they have built together, and that he really loves his job. Today, I asked Richard Durrett who covers the Texas Rangers for ESPN about it, [...]

Jerry DiPoto Seems Like The Right Choice For Mets GM
With Kevin Towers taking over as the new GM of the Arizona Diamondbacks, interim GM Jerry DiPoto has decided not to return to the Diamondbacks organization, opting instead to move on. Morning Grind: Changing Faces, Part 3
Happy Friday, Met Nation. In this 3rd and final installment, we’re talking all things Mets and looking into an off season that may have the league buzzing unlike any other since Pedro came to the Amazins. There is a clear need from player to the front office to make aggressive, sweeping changes. What they will amount to is anybody’s guess but know this: Change is coming and it’s coming soon. I adamantly disagree with some [...]

A Brave New World?
Yesterday John Heyman of SI reported that Stan Kasten resigned as President of the Washington Nationals. Kasten along with John Schuerholz and Bobby Cox were hired by Ted Turner and in the late 80’s began to rebuild the Atlanta Braves, turning it into the franchise which from 1991 to 2005 won an unprecedented 14 consecutive division titles. Officially Kasten stated he’s resigning for “personal reasons” however speculation was growing that he was becoming uneasy with [...]
