Expect Great Things From Jason Bay Tonight

First, let me thank fellow MMO blogger Russell Zanca for the tip… In this article by Kevin Kernan of the NY Post, Mets hitting coach Howard Johnson predicts a great night for leftfielder Jason Bay, who will return to tonight’s lineup after being benched for one game due to poor production. Bay was benched last night. He worked with hitting coach Howard Johnson before the game and both feel they came up with an answer [...]

Mets DFA Fernando Nieve, Call-up Manny Acosta

Immediately after the conclusion of last night’s game, SNY announced that the Mets have designated Fernando Nieve for assignment. After Oliver Perez (6.70), Nieve (6.00) had the highest ERA among all Mets relievers, allowing 28 earned runs in 42 innings pitched while making 40 appearances for the Mets. In five appearances in July, Nieve posted an unsightly 7.56 ERA in 8.1 IP. The Mets had claimed Nieve off waivers from the Astros last year. Replacing Nieve, [...]

Jason Bay: The Human Windmill

For many years, environmentalists have been looking for energy sources that do not consume fuel or contribute to the excessive amounts of pollution in the air.  One of the energy sources that satisfy those criteria is wind.  And one of the best wind generators in recent times is right here in New York, wearing #44 for the Mets. That’s right, Mets fans.  Jason Bay’s daily strikeouts might be bad for the Mets, but they’re quite [...]

Manuel and Minaya Are Safe For Now

According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya’s jobs are safe for now. The Mets have lost six of seven games since the All-Star break, but all indications are that manager Jerry Manuel and general manager Omar Minaya are in no immediate danger of losing their jobs. Minaya is making a scheduled trip to Los Angeles for this weekend’s series against the Dodgers, but the visit is routine. Either Minaya [...]

Mets Need A Jolt…Time To Deal Frenchy, Barajas…

For the month of July, the Mets are every bit as bad as they were good in June. Exactly 1 month ago, the Mets were hot and heavy for Cliff Lee. Now, personally, I thought the Mets should have made a move a month ago, when the situation was that the team could land a starter to cement a rotation that was obviously, an arm short. My thinking now is that the Mets may have waited too [...]

Counting Down to the End of Jerry and Other Thoughts

Last night was one of those rare moments in my long life as a Mets fan when I was actually torn about wanting them to win the game. At the same time I was hoping that Oliver Perez would get out of that 2AM New York time jam, I was also rooting for a total implosion which would help kill two birds with one baseball–perhaps getting both Ollie and Jerry out of town. As I [...]
