I was about to post the news that everyone’s jobs are safe as far as the coaching staff goes as reported by MetsBlog and Kevin Burkhardt.

I’m not sure if either were on the conference call or if they spoke with people who were on the conference call, but usually those two are as accurate as you can get when it comes to reporting Mets news.

But then I read a post from Joe Janish from the excellent blog Mets Today, that said Howard Johnson would either be fired or reassigned to a different position according to his sources. I know that he now has better sources being that he is affiliated with ESPN and is part of the new ESPN Sweet Spot blog network.

Hmmm… I had a dilemma…

I decided to call a friend who works in the Yankees front office to see if he knew anything. I figured, what the heck, maybe I’ll get lucky, and I did. He did not have any information, but told me he’d ask around the office and call me back in a few minutes.

When he called back, he told me that one of his bosses, whose name I cannot divulge, is actually very close to a Mets executive who WAS on the internal conference call. He spoke with him and was told in these words, “we’re staying put for now.”

So that’s the long and the short of it. For now, it seems Matt and Kevin have it right.

Of course this is baseball and things could change again if lets say the losing continues…

That said, I’m a little perplexed by the inaction of the Mets today, especially when it’s clear that the team needs some sort of shakeup.

They have a tough six game homestand against the Cardinals and then the D’Backs who just swept them, followed by six games on the road against the Braves and Phillies who they are trying to catch while fending off the Marlins at the same time.

I would have bet the house HoJo was a goner when I awoke this morning. It’s obvious they need to do something to appease the masses. Maybe, that shakeup could come in the form of a big trade?

It’s weird, but I’m almost disappointed that something didn’t get done today. Is it bad to think that way?
