Bobby Ojeda On Pelfrey, Maine and Mejia
Nice interview in the NY Post this morning with former Met and SNY Analyst Bobby Ojeda. Q: Based on the inconsistency Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez and John Maine have shown this spring training, do you think the Mets made a mistake not picking up another starter this offseason? A: I would have agreed with that statement last year. But this year, I honestly believe Mike Pelfrey will be better after last year’s experience. John Maine [...]

Mets Interested In Chad Gaudin?
Yesterday, the New York Yankees released RHP Chad Gaudin, making him a free agent. Last season Gaudin appeared in 31 games, starting 25 of them and allowing 146 hits and 76 walks in 147 innings. His ERA was 4.64 last season and he has a career 1.53 WHIP. The Yankees will owe 27-year-old Gaudin 25 percent of his $2.95 million salary for this season and now he can sign with any team as he becomes a free [...]

Can Pedro Feliciano Be The Mets Setup Man?
Considering he’s relied upon so heavily in the Mets’ bullpen, Pedro Feliciano was given a nice little break recently. Now, with about a week and a half remaining in Spring Training, he’ll be used rather steadily as he aims to prepare himself for what will probably be another 80-appearance season in relief for the Amazin’s. But the veteran left-hander has something else in mind. “I just want to be the setup man,” Feliciano said prior [...]

Are Mets Becoming The Forgotten Stepchild?
Folks, I don’t live in New York anymore, and haven’t since 1992. Sure, I can get all my Mets news online and I can watch and listen to games online or on cable. But nothing beats living there–the talk, the camaraderie, the print newspapers that you can read with two hands and two eyes (unless you’re Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba). So sometimes I feel disconnected and rely on friends or my dad to fill [...]

Believe It Or Not… Mets Edition
Shannon Shark of Mets Police came across another one of those all too familiar big bloopers from the Mets front office, who continue to maintain a stronghold on their title of “The Most Inept Front Office In Baseball”. Take a look at one of the newest additions to the Mets Fan Walk for the 2010 season… Looks fantastic huh? Over a dozen of these brand new Fan Bricks honoring some of the greatest and most memorable [...]

If Charges Stick, Should Gooden Be Honored In August?
As most Mets fans know by now, former Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden was arrested yesterday after fleeing the scene of an accident. He was driving with his five year old son at the time and everyone involved was unharmed. The story first broke on Deadspin so you can imagine all the delirious twists and turns the story has taken, and in a post to MetsBlog, Adam Salazar (Brooklyn Met Fan) cautions that much of what [...]

The Dog Days Of Spring Training
Call these the “Dog Days,” of Spring Training. With the regular season opener less than two weeks away it still resembles more mirage than oasis. Waiting for that ketchup, er, season to flow, grows with anticipation as another meaningless Grapefruit League tilt thankfully is capped. The storylines have been played out and one can only bang the bottle so long before realizing it’s empty. Eventually you must unseal the new season before the gratification commences. You can [...]

The Issue of Realignment…
There has been much talk of realignment over the past couple months. The ideas have ranged from very few to very radical changes. I am more progressive than most in my thinking about changes to baseball – but any change in baseball comes under a lot of scrutiny. The scrutiny is not without cause – baseball has so much history behind it, and some fans are afraid that changes will ruin what they love. Although [...]

Jon Niese Is Closing In On A Rotation Spot
Joining in the latest new blog craze, we’ll be linking to you to some other great reads each day as you may have already seen on some other Mets sites. Last summer, before his leg betrayed him, Jon Niese provided his manager a glimpse of how good it all could be. Jerry Manuel has retained an image of a young left-handed starting pitcher finding and fighting his way through big league lineups. The Mets manager [...]

Dwight Gooden’s Demons Return
Dwight Gooden was arrested Tuesday morning in NJ and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following an auto accident. Gooden has previously stated he’d been sober the past 3 and a half years. The accident occurred at morning rush hour and according to reports Doc’s son was in the car with him at the time. It’s saddens all Mets and Baseball fans alike and we all wish Doc well and hopefully he’ll someday be [...]

25 Things To Make 2010 Enjoyable.
You’ve heard me say it, and I still think it’s true. I think last year humbled me a bit as a Mets fan, and a baseball fan. Now I’m not saying I’m going to sit quiet, not complain, or not get into a daily debate with Bayonne over the value of getting on base as opposed to the sacrifice fly (zing!) What I mean is, I think for the past 3 years the off-season has [...]
