DL Notes: Maine, Perez
John Maine will throw a rehab start this week, with the goal of returning next weekend. If Maine’s rehab start goes well, then he will take Tim Redding’s start on Saturday against the Yankees, with Redding moved to long relief. Our other injured starter, Oliver Perez will begin a rehab assignment Monday in Port St. Lucie, and the possibility has been raised of Ollie returning to the bullpen before he is trusted with starting again. [...]

Mets Are In A Catchy Situation
If you were paying attention during the fourth inning of today’s Mets broadcast, you would have learned that the Mets catchers lead the National League with 45 runs batted in. Wow, really? Omir Santos leads the pack with 22, followed by Ramon Castro who knocked in 13 runners before being traded, and Brian Schneider is holding up the rear with 10 ribbies. Santos is seventh in the league, but when you take a closer look it gets [...]

Some Father’s Day Odds And Ends
As we reach another Father’s Day, let’s take a break from discussing the lack of run support for Johan Santana and the Three Fernandos breakup tour to reflect on a special man in our lives. He is the man who more than likely showed us how to throw our first curveball, took us to our first ballgame and showed us the proper way to order a ballpark hot dog (which I seem to have forgotten [...]

The Ultimate Fathers Day Team
I thought I would do something special in honor of Fathers Day and take a look at all those fathers and sons that have played in the Major League’s and see if I could field a decent team. I think I did pretty good, and I was surprised to see how common it really was for fathers and sons to play in a game. Here you go… My Ultimate Fathers Day Team C – Yogi [...]

Can We Get Some Runs From The Congregation?
As with the rest of the team, the Mets pitching staff has been hit by injuries to some of its key moundsmen. Two of the projected starting five (Oliver Perez and John Maine) and one of their key bullpen acquisitions (J.J. Putz) are currently on the disabled list. Despite all this, the Mets have remained near the top of the standings in the National League East, only two games behind the first place Philadelphia Phillies. [...]

Carlos Beltran To Have MRI On Ailing Knee
According to David Lennon of Newsday, Carlos Beltran is hurting again from the bone bruise below his right knee and he plans to get an MRI soon to find out the extent of the damage. “I just want to make sure it’s not going to get worse,” Beltran told Newsday this afternoon. “If it can get worse, I want to take care of it.” With Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado out indefinitely, the Mets can [...]

NL East Report
Atlanta Braves: (4-6; -5.5) The Braves were involved in the lone National League series this week, losing two of three to the Cincinnati Reds. They will move on to a very interesting series with the Red Sox. Friday’s matchup pits Japanese pitchers Kenshin Kawakami of the Braves against Daisuke Matsuzaka of the Red Sox. Saturday’s matchup tops that, as Braves ace Derek Lowe returns to Boston for the first time since 2004 against Red Sox [...]

Adios To The Three Fernandos
When we last left the Three Fernandos, they were defeating the evil forces of El Guapo (Derek Jeter), his right-hand man Jefe (Alex Rodriguez) and his left-hand man Castillo (Mark Teixeira). The Fernandos were able to thwart the Yankee bandits by confusing them into thinking they were everywhere. Dressed in matching Mets jerseys, the firepower provided by the bats of Gary Sheffield and Omir Santos and the cleanup crew of Sean Green and Francisco Rodriguez [...]

Nieve Expectations, Murphy Hot, Santana Not
Two starts in and Fernando Nieve is looking like a solid waiver wire pickup, although we’ve been down this road before with guys like Alay Soler, Jorge Sosa and most recently Nelson Figueroa. Lets just temper our expectations a little before we start getting a little bit too giddy. Nieve had a 4.91 ERA at Class-AA Binghamton and a 3.70 ERA at Class-AAA Buffalo before he was called up. In his last three games, first baseman [...]
