Mets Win But Learn Billy Wagner’s Elbow Is Still Hurting

The Mets easily beat the Pirates today by a score of 7-4 on the strength of another solid performance by Pedro Martinez. It was the fifth straight win for the Mets and the game featured homeruns from shortstop Jose Reyes, and catcher Ramon Castro. However, the jubilation was short-lived when the Mets learned that closer Billy Wagner who was expected to return from the disabled list on Monday, was still complaining about pain. What started [...]

Minor League Players of the Week – Wilmer Flores (SS) and Brad Holt (SP)

This feature is supposed to be just a single player, but I decided to have two players this week since they have been performing extremely well: Wilmer Flores of Kingsport and Bradley Holt of Brooklyn. I don’t know how much this will continue, but man Wilmer Flores has been extremely consistent offensively for the Kingsport Mets. If you haven’t heard about this kid already, you should. I say kid, well, because he just turned 17 [...]

Hot or Not: 1st Place Edition!

Happy Saturday Mets fans and welcome to another installment of Hot or Not. This week, we watched our boys climb back into sole possession of first place by completing a sweep of the Washington Nationals. We saw Mike Pelfrey dominate the Washington Nationals. I am so proud of our Mets, therefore, none of them will be featured in my “Not” section. This week, I’ve done something a little different and I hope you’ll enjoy it! [...]

What A View From the Top!

After doing what was expected necessary, our New York Metropolitans find themselves sitting atop the NL East. Clutch hitting, a stellar rotation, and a bullpen that saves games (for a change) all played pivotal roles this week. It also helped that Manny was being Manny in L.A. instead of Boston. And I would also like to take the time to thank Nomar Garciaparra for hitting that walk-off home run the other day. This morning, after [...]

Getting Down With Oliver Perez

I for one do not usually believe in everything I see. Statistics though, are quite difficult to overlook and push aside. In baseball, they prove to be solid numerical proof to almost tell a story of how a player has performed. Since the conclusion of last nights 9-3 victory over the Washington Nationals, I have dissected carefully any and all statistical information pertaining to the turnaround of the birthday boy, Oliver Perez.   Omar Minaya [...]

This Weekend in Baseball History: Aug 15–Aug 17

AUGUST 15 1915: Babe Ruth of Boston outpitches Walter Johnson of Washington, 1-0 in 13 innings. 1926: Babe Herman of Brooklyn doubles with the bases loaded. However, due to some major base running blunders, Herman and 2 of his teammates all wind up on 2nd. Thus, Babe Herman becomes the only player in history to double into a double play. 1941: The Senators forfeit a game to Boston. Although Washington is leading 6-3, they have [...]

Mike & The Mad Dog Is No More

We just learned that Chris “Mad Dog” Russo has left WFAN once and for all. He leaves his signature program after 18 years of work with Mike Francesa. This is coming after the relationship of the hosts had became a problem over the past few months. Francesa will do the show solo for now. I’ll let you know if anything comes up. Added to by Joe D. – Love them or hate them, they were [...]

Let’s Steal 4 From Pittsburgh

I don’t think I was the only Mets fan this morning who is a little surprised to see that they share first place with the Phillies. It’s like a cherry on top of Wednesday night’s sundae of a game. Seeing the Mets play an actual laugher of a game vs. the Nationals on Wednesday night was a welcomed surprise. I can’t recall the last time the Mets routed a team to the point where the [...]
