A collective sigh of relief, Mets fans…
According to multiple sources on Twitter, Zack Wheeler does not have any structural damage in his pitching elbow, and has been diagnosed with a flexor strain, according to Mets assistant GM John Ricco.
Wheeler has received a PRP injection and has been shut down for two weeks.
Ricco would not say that Wheeler’s season is over, as the Mets are still clinging onto hope that he can return before the campaign comes to a close, but it seems unlikely at this point.
A former top prospect, Wheeler owns an 18-16 record with a 3.50 ERA over 285.1 career innings, but hasn’t thrown a pitch in the big leagues since the end of the 2014 season.
