The Mets (57-65) lost to the Rockies (47-73) by the score of 6-2 on Tuesday evening at Citi Field.

“This was the worst ball game the Mets have played all year – fundamentally.” – Keith Hernandez

That sums it up for you. Do you really want to read on? Well, alright, your pending high blood pressure.

Chris Young started for the Mets and kept them in the game. He pitched the first five innings without allowing a baserunner at all. He actually struck out the side in the first. He pitched a clean seventh too, with two strikeouts. The problem? The sixth inning. The inning began with back to back hits to end Young’s no-hit bid, and a subsequent throwing error by Chris Young on a bunt that led to a run scoring. A bloop to Tejada, a Fowler single, and a Hernandez sac fly led to a four-run sixth inning that put the Mets behind for good. Young’s final line was 7.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R (2 ER), BB, 9 K. Runs would also score off a Dexter Fowler single off Carson in the eighth and a failure of a play fundamentally in the ninth on a botched run-down.

The offense did a good job of making another Rockies pitcher look like a Cy Young candidate. Andres Torres and Daniel Murphy picked up sacrifice flies to drive in a run each. Mets had their chances. Wright struck out previously to the Murphy sacrifice fly with men on first and third, and Torres was picked off in a bad way in the bottom of the fifth. And Tejada was gunned down at the plate in the bottom of the sixth on a Wright single.

The Torres pick-off/caught stealing was overturned after he was originally called safe – this led to a Collins argument and eventual ejection. For the record, the call was actually incorrect before being overturned.

It was tough to watch on our end.

Notes

Ruben Tejada was the only man with two hits on the Mets side.

We will have an answer about Johan Santana in the morning.

Since 2009, in the second half, the Mets are 101-156. A .395 winning percentage.

As Joe says… LOL Mets alive and well.

Ojeda ripped the Mets post game, calling them an embarrassment and apathetic. Collins was really pissed post game. He said he addressed the team post game and it was about the third time this season.

Robert Carson is up while Hefner is on paternity leave.

Random baseball news: Billy Hamilton picked up stolen base number 146 this season in the minor leagues to set a new record. He is a prospect for the Reds. Also, someone tell Roger Clemens to shut up.
