The New York Yankees announced they’ve signed first baseman Adam Lind to a minor league deal with an invite to major league camp.
Lind spent 2017 with the Washington Nationals where he hit .303/.362/.513 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 301 plate appearances. Lind slashed .303/.364/.534 against righties last season.
The Mets had shown interest in the 34-year-old left-handed hitter before they signed Adrian Gonzalez to a major league deal on Jan. 18.
Lind is a career .272/.330/.465 hitter with 200 home runs in 12 big league seasons. He also has experience in the outfield including 25 games in left field for the Nationals last season.
Despite signing Gonzalez, the Mets still have huge questions about production coming from first base with him coming off a career-worst -1.2 WAR season and Dominic Smith nursing an injury right now.
