David Wright received an injection in his neck on Tuesday from team doctors. Terry Collins said in a televised press conference.

The shot needs 48 hours to take effect, and Wright will remain unavailable for the next two games, but it looks like he’ll avoid the disabled list for now.

Wright has a herniated disk in his neck and is also dealing with right shoulder discomfort. Looks like this will continue to be a wait and see situation.

Previous Update –  May 30

David Wright missed a third straight game on Monday against the Chicago White Sox, and manager Terry Collins says he is very concerned that he could be heading to the disabled list.

“Yes, I’m concerned about David Wright possibly going on the disabled list,” Collins said before today’s game.

“The condition he’s been playing in and the condition he’s in right now, yeah, I’m concerned about it. I know this guy plays with a lot of discomfort. He always has. When he can’t play, he’s hurt. So yeah, I’m concerned about it.”

After the game,  Wright told reporters that he can’t turn his head side to side without pain, and that he may have a herniated disc in his neck. He will know more tomorrow after he is reexamined by the team’s medical staff for a third time in four days.

Wright, who is suffering from neck and shoulder pain, was treated by the team’s doctor on Sunday. He was prescribed an oral anti-inflammatory medication that requires 48 hours to take full effect and was told to remain idle for a few days.

So big day on Tuesday for Wright, as we’ll know before the game if he ends up on the DL.

Original Report – May 28

New York Mets third baseman David Wright was not in the lineup on Saturday because he is experiencing neck discomfort. He was examined by a team doctor and they recommended that the Mets captain should get the game off.

General manager Sandy Alderson told reporters before the game that he was concerned about the neck issue and was unsure if it might be connected to Wright’s spinal stenosis condition.

When asked if he knew what the precise issue was, he declined to respond.  “It’s bothering him. I don’t want to get into it at this point, until we have more concrete information.”

After the game, Wright met with reporters and sounded pretty somber about it. He said that he’s scheduled to be examined by doctors again on Sunday, and then added that he wasn’t ruling out a trip to the the disabled list when asked about it.

What sucks about this is that Wright has really turned it on of late. He hit a solo homer in the series opener on Friday, his fifth of the season, and he has homered in three straight games.

We’ll have more on this Sunday morning.
