Early on in the month of May, many were willing to label the Wilson Ramos signing a bust. On May 7, he hit his season-low point of a .227 batting average while also struggling on the defensive side.

However, since that point, Ramos has caught fire, going 24-for-66 (.363) with six home runs, one double, and 16 RBI.

Last night was another stellar night for the right-handed hitting catcher as he went 3-for-5

with a clutch two-run homer in the sixth inning against Madison Bumgarner that gave the Mets a 3-2 lead.

Ramos has always had Madison Bumgarner’s number, though, with a career .368 average (7-for-19) against him. He’s also hit two home runs and two doubles against him, as noted by MMO’s own Logan Barer.

That was the second time this season that he has hit home runs in back-to-back games as he hit one on June 2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks as well.

While just seeing him hit well is a major plus for the Mets, the more important part is the way he’s hitting now.

Earlier in the season, Ramos was struggling to hit for power, only having two home runs before he heated up. After only hitting two homers in his first 106 at-bats, Ramos has now four homers in his last 61.

That’s a significant difference and one that could potentially help him return to the form of his 2018 season in which he hit .306/.358/.487 with 15 home runs and 70 RBI to give himself a 131 wRC+, .181 ISO, and 2.1 WAR.

Overall in 2019, the catcher is hitting .278/.350/.420 with seven home runs and 34 RBI which gives him a 106 wRC+, .142 ISO, and 0.3 WAR.

The Mets will certainly be hoping that Ramos continues to produce the way he has over the last few weeks as he has been serving as a vital offensive weapon that the team has been lacking for years at the catcher position.
