Now that the New York Mets have announced the rosters for their full-season affiliates, we now know where each of them will be playing to start the 2022 season. Using ‘s Top 30 Prospect Rankings, here are where each of MMO‘s top Mets prospects will begin their seasons:
Syracuse Mets
- Francisco Álvarez (1) – (The Mets top prospect is going to be added to the Mets roster today)
- Brett Baty (2)
- Ronny Mauricio (6)
- Mark Vientos (8)
- Jose Butto (13)
- Grant Hartwig (26)
- Eric Orze (29)
The focus on the Mets minor leagues will be the 2-5 batters to see which one of them forces their way to the majors first. Behind that group is a starter in Butto who we may see return to the Mets pitching staff at some point in the year. Also, Hartwig and Orze have an opportunity to join the bullpen if they have strong seasons with Syracuse.
Binghamton Rumble Ponies
- Mike Vasil (9)
- Dominic Hamel (12)
- Dedniel Núñez (27)
The 1-2 punch of Vasil and Hamel atop the Binghamton rotation could be the most promising in the Mets minor league system. As we saw last season, starting the year in Binghamton does not preclude a player to make their way to the majors, and with the Mets starting pitching depth already tested, Vasil and Hamel could potentially put themselves in the mix. Núñez could put himself in the major league bullpen mix with his being another year removed from Tommy John.
Brooklyn Cyclones
- Kevin Parada (3)
- Alex Ramirez (4)
- Blade Tidwell (7)
- Stanley Consuegra (16)
- William Lugo (21)
Parada and Ramirez are the two big names here as they are both top 100 prospects heading into the 2023 season. Tidwell is the Mets’ highest ranked starting pitching prospect. With Ramirez and Consuegra in the outfield, Brooklyn might have the most talented outfield in the entire Mets minor league system.
St. Lucie Mets
- Jett Williams (5)
- Javier Atencio (17)
- Layonel Ovalles (18)
- Jawilme Ramirez (23)
- Jacob Reimer (25)
- Jordany Ventura (28)
Williams made some top 100 prospect rankings to start the year, and for those he didn’t, he was mentioned as a name to watch. In some ways, he is in the position Ramirez was last year, and he vaulted onto all the rankings this year. The real strength of this team is the pitching with Atencio, Ovalles, Ramirez, and Ventura.
Short Season Affiliates
- Jesus Baez (15)
- Simón Juan (19)
- Willy Fañas (20)
Baez, Juan, and Fañas began their careers with the DSL last season and will return to short-season rookie ball.
Extended Spring Training/Injured List
- Calvin Ziegler (10)
- Matt Allan (11)
- Joel Diaz (14)
- Bryce Montes de Oca (22)
- Nick Morabito (24)
- Christian Scott (30)
We should see Ziegler return at some point this season. Allan, Diaz, and Montes de Oca will miss the entirety of the 2023 season due to arm surgery.
