Andrew Simon, Jason Catania, and Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com compiled a list of six trade scenarios that could result in the Cleveland Indians actually deciding to trade Francisco Lindor.

Lindor, 26, hit .284/.335/.518 with 32 home runs, 74 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in 2019 to give himself a 114 wRC+ and 4.4 fWAR. He has graded above average defensively at shortstop in each of his first five seasons and had 9 DRS and a 6.4 UZR this past season.

“Mr.Smiles” comes with two years of club control and Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors projects Lindor to make $16.7 million in 2020.

One package they suggested that could work is a deal in which the Mets would send Amed Rosario, J.D. Davis, Brett Baty, and David Peterson to Cleveland for Lindor.

Rosario’s inclusion in the deal would make total sense as the Indians most likely would want a controllable shortstop in return for Lindor. In 2019, Rosario had his best season thus far as he had a .287/.323/.432 slash line with 15 home runs, 72 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. That gave him a 100 wRC+ and 2.7 fWAR.

Defensively, the 24-year-old finished with a -0.8 UZR and -16 DRS, but did show significant improvement in the second half.

Baty, 19, is second on the Mets’ top 30 prospects list and 81st in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline. He split his time between three levels of Low-A with the Mets and hit .234/.368/.452 with seven homers and 33 RBI.

Davis, 26, broke out with the Mets in 2019 with a .307/.369/.527 slash line to go along with 22 home runs and 57 RBI. That gave him a 136 wRC+ and 2.4 fWAR.

The reason for his fWAR not being higher, though, is that his defense is significantly below average as he had -9 DRS and a -1.6 UZR at third base in 220 innings. In left field, he had -11 DRS and a -4.7 UZR over 585 1/3 innings.

It remains to be seen if his long-term future is with the Mets or if the team eventually trades him because of that.

Peterson, 24, is probably the closest to major league ready of their pitching prospects currently. He made 24 starts for Double-A Binghamton this past season in which he had a 4.19 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 9.5 K/9 as compared to 2.9 BB/9. He ranks seventh in the Mets’ farm system.

In the article, they write that the Mets would likely be the ones to decline this offer.
