logan VerrettWith David Wright finally returning to the Mets for tomorrow’s game, the Mets will keep both Logan Verrett and Michael Conforto on the roster, instead optioning left-handed relief pitcher Dario Alvarez back to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Verrett, 25, will presumably be used, as he was today, as a spot starter over the last few weeks of the season, helping to conserve innings for Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, and Jacob deGrom. He has been excellent in limited playing time since being reacquired by the Mets earlier this season. He has allowed just one run over 13.1 innings in a Mets uniform this year, striking out 12.

Alvarez has had a fantastic season between Double-A and Triple-A, posting a combined 2.75 ERA and 13.3 K/9 rate, but clearly the Mets see Verrett’s ability to start as more valuable to the team right now.

Conforto, 22, has been a pleasant surprise since being called up last month, batting .258/.356/.484 with three home runs in 21 games.

Wright has been out since mid-April with a hamstring problem and then spinal stenosis. He was hitting .333/.371/.424 in eight games before hitting the disabled list.
