Jason Vargas exited this Sunday afternoon’s game in the middle of his own at-bat during the bottom of the fourth inning with a left calf cramp.

Before leaving the game, his command was not as sharp as recent outings but he was able to limit the damage to just two earned runs. He threw four innings, allowing just one hit with three walks and four strikeouts in 66 pitches.

After a rough start to the season, Vargas has been one of the Mets most consistent pitchers as of late. With a 3.68 ERA on the season, he owns a 2.23 ERA over his last six starts since April 30, with opponents slashing .283/.283/.321 against the lefty.

On June 5 the veteran threw his ninth career complete-game shutout to lead the Mets to a 7-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. Vargas is tied with Adam Wainwright with eight shutouts for the most among major league pitchers since 2011, with Clayton Kershaw leading with 14, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
