On Monday, reliever Trevor May, who previously pitched for the Oakland A’s last season, revealed that he has retired from baseball during a live stream on his own Twitch channel. In the 2023 season, May pitched admirably for the A’s, amassing 21 saves while maintaining a 3.28 ERA. During the 2008 Major League Baseball draft, the Philadelphia Phillies selected May in the fourth round. Before the start of the 2011 season, Baseball America ranked May as the top prospect in the Phillies’ organization.

In December of 2012, the Phillies sent Trevor May and Vance Worley to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Ben Revere. His major league debut was on August 9, 2014, against the Oakland Athletics. May spent six seasons with the Twins, amassing a 4.44 ERA across 215 games and 316 innings pitched, striking out 367 batters and maintaining a 1.304 WHIP.

Following the 2020 season, May signed with the New York Mets, inking a two-year contract valued at $15.5 million. In 2021, he recorded a career-high 68 appearances, boasting a 7-3 record with a 3.59 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 62 2/3 innings.

Despite challenges in the 2022 season at age 33, May bounced back impressively, concluding the year with a 5.04 ERA but showcasing a strong 2.16 ERA in the final month. In May  2022, a stress reaction in his humerus placed him on the 60-day injured list, but he successfully returned to the mound on August 3. May’s two-season tenure with the Mets resulted in a 4.00 ERA across 87 and two-thirds innings in 94 appearances.
