It was a busy and hectic final day before the 4:00 p.m. EST trade deadline, with Zack Greinke being traded to the Astros among other large-scale moves. However, with the elimination of the non-waiver trade deadline from years past, there was a larger abundance of smaller-scale last-minute moves around baseball.

Tanner Roark Traded to Athletics

In one of the more major moves of the day, a former Mets nemesis from the Nationals in Tanner Roark was traded from the Reds to the Athletics to bolster the Athletics’ pitching depth. The deal was reported by Ken Rosenthal of MLB Network.

Roark has been solid for the Reds this year, posting a 4.24 ERA and 108 ERA+ in 110.1 innings (21 starts). His acquisition adds another veteran presence to an Athletics rotation that already has Mike FiersBrett Anderson, and Homer Bailey.

Mark Melancon Traded To Braves

The first-place Braves bolstered their bullpen with the acquisition of Mark Melancon from the Giants. While not as dominant as he once was with the Pirates, Melancon has quietly rebounded to some extent with a 3.38 ERA since the start of the 2018 season.

Robert Murray of The Athletic reported that the deal was for prospect Tristan Beck and righty reliever Dan Winkler.

Nicholas Castellanos Traded To Cubs

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Tigers traded Nicholas Castellanos to the Giants. Castellanos has played for the Tigers since 2013, batting .274/.324/.459 over seven seasons.

Scooter Gennett Traded To Giants

Rosenthal also reported that Scooter Gennett has been traded from the Reds to the Giants. Gennett broke out for the Reds in 2017, hitting .303/.351/.508 over two seasons, but has struggled in 20 games this year since returning from injury.

Drew Pomeranz Traded To Brewers For Prospect Mauricio Dubon

As Robert Murray of The Athletic reported, the Giants traded Drew Pomeranz for Brewers infield prospect Mauricio Dubon. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic added that Giants reliever Ray Black is going to the Brewers in the trade as well.

The Giants did well to get a prospect as highly regarded as Dubon for someone like Pomeranz, who has a 5.87 ERA since the start of the 2018 season.

Martin Maldonado Traded To Astros

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported that the Cubs traded Martin Maldonado, who they had recently acquired from the Royals. Maldonado played 41 games for the Astros in 2018.

Marlins Pitching Prospect Zac Gallen Traded To Diamondbacks

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the Marlins have traded pitching prospect Zac Gallen for Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Jazz Chisholm.

Adam Kolarek Traded To Dodgers

Passan also reported that reliever Adam Kolarek was traded from the Rays to the Dodgers, who have been one of the biggest players in the market for relievers. The Dodgers sent minor league outfielder Niko Hulsizer to the Rays.

Kolarek has a 3.95 ERA in 54 games this year.

Aaron Sanchez Traded To Astros

Per Joel Sherman of New York Post, the Blue Jays have traded 2016 AL ERA leader Aaron Sanchez to the Astros. Sanchez has struggled to a 6.07 ERA and MLB-worst 14 losses this year.

Joe Biagini Traded To Astros

According to Rob Longley of Toronto Sun, the Astros have also acquired Joe Biagini, who has started and relieved in the past but has been used strictly as a reliever this year, with a 3.86 ERA in 49 games.

Jedd Gyorko Traded To Dodgers

The Cardinals announced that they have traded infielder Jedd Gyorko, international cap space, and cash considerations for left-handed reliever Tony Cingrani and minor league right-handed reliever Jeffry Abreu.

The move gives some added depth to the Dodgers infield which has been beleaguered by recent injuries to Chris Taylor and Kiké Hernández.

John Ryan Murphy Traded To Braves

The Diamondbacks traded backup catcher John Ryan Murphy to the Braves, according to Joel Sherman of New York Post.

Max Stassi Traded To Angels

Sherman also reported that the Astros have traded backup catcher Max Stassi to the Angels.
