This had the feel of a real Mets game, guys — I do not know about you all, but I had an eerie feeling that the 1-0 score was never going to hold. The Mets were staked to a 1-0 lead after a Daniel Murphy RBI double in the top of the sixth, while Carlos Torres was completely in control through the first six innings of the game. Unfortunately, he ran into a little trouble in the bottom of the seventh where he surrendered two home runs, a solo shot to Evan Gattis and a two-run homer to Andrelton Simmons. His line on the evening was still pretty solid, standing at three runs allowed over seven innings with six strikeouts.

A start like that against the Braves is definitely something to be proud of, but his non-existant run support did him in. The Mets scattered eight hits in this game and had many chances to drive in runs, but their consistent failure left Torres no margin for error. The Mets had chances in the seventh and eighth to add some runs to the board, but a Matt den Dekker strikeout and a Travis d’Arnaud pop out were the end results.

Hey, these games happen… it just feels like they happen to us much too often. Hey, at the least, we saw some more Vic Black today, who picked up his first strikeout as a Met. The Mets could definitely pull off a win tomorrow and bounce back, when they take on Kameron Loe with Dillon Gee on the mound. Gee has been one of baseball’s best pitchers since the end of May, with a 2.47 ERA in 17 starts since May 30th.
