The New York Mets wasted a great effort from Jacob deGrom. A start where many eyes were on the deGrominator after his previous poor outing in which he showed a decrease in velocity. Jake put all those issues to rest as yet again he put forth a great performance.

His offense and closer betrayed him in Thursday’s 2-1 loss to the Rockies. He though put forth a great effort, going seven strong shutout innings. He allowed just five hits while walking one and striking out six, taking the no-decision. Jacob says he could have kept pitching.

“They asked me [if I could go back out] and I said, ‘Yeah, I’m good to go,’ ” deGrom said. “But with the situation of a couple runners on, they decided to pinch hit for me. But I was definitely ready to go more.” (NY Post)

DeGrom only threw 97 pitches on the day, being efficient and dominant. He felt great in all aspects of his game and had good command on his pitches. Another good start to build on going forward. Jake lowered his ERA to 2.56 on the season and his WHIP to 1.08 with Thursday’s start.

“I would say that’s the best I’ve felt mechanically wise [this season],” said deGrom. “I threw off the mound twice between starts to figure things out.”

He did a good job showing that his last start was nothing but a blip on the radar in what is a lengthy season. Jake has proven to everyone yet again that he is one of the most dependable, if not the most dependable pitcher on this starting staff.
