The Mets have lost five straight and dropped seven of their last eight games.
The club has lost a season-high six games in a row for the third time this season and is 3-7 in its last 10 games. They are at a season high of 12 games under .500 for the season and in danger of being swept on this homestand if they don’t salvage tonight’s game.
Since the All Star Break, the Mets are 19-37 including an abysmal 4-20 at Citi Field. Overall, the team is 30-40 at home this year, and have lost 21 of their last 25 home games.
After dropping the first two games to Washington, New York has now lost all six series to the Nationals this year and dating back to 2011 the club has dropped seven straight series.
Washington swept the Mets at Citi Field earlier this year, July 23-25, and the Mets have won just one home series in the second-half (August 24-26 vs. Houston). They are 1-7 in home series in the second half.
“I felt really good with R.A. on the mound. You’re thinking he’s going to get us to the ninth inning and we’re going to give ourselves a chance here,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “It didn’t happen.”
It seems like nothing is happening for the Mets these days who have tried everything short of picking their lineup out of a hat – a trick that worked wonders for Billy Martin and the Yankees in 1978.
