Joel Sherman had an interesting article in the NY Post that shed some light on the Bobby Jenks rumors that were floating around Flushing last week.

Sherman quotes one Mets official as saying,

“Unless something changes, I would say the chances of us getting Jenks are close to zero. The price is too high and he isn’t close to the top of our list.”

He goes on to cite two main reasons for why the Mets are no longer interested.

1. After further review, the declining strikeout rate is quite alarming. Starting at 11.44 per nine innings in 2005, to 10.34 in 2006,  7.75 in 2007, and finally 5.55 last season.

2. What do the White Sox know about Jenks that have them offering up a championship-proven, young, cost-effective closer?

Another reason may have also been the price tag which may have included Mets top prospect Fernando Martinez.
