terry collins

I don’t know all the specifics and I don’t know who the actual parties involved are, but a reader emailed me an image of a letter Terry Collins wrote to a Mets Fan who recently lost their husband who was also a huge fan

That was a pretty thoughtful thing for Terry Collins to do. It’s nice to see a manager or a ballplayer take some time out of their busy day especially during the season to reach out and make a fan’s day a little better.

Last night after the game, it was about the most emotional I’ve seen Collins all year – in a good way. Talking about how he worries about all the innings Syndergaard, Harvey and deGrom are racking up, he said:

“We’ve got to be able to run these guys out there in September, and if for some tremendous opportunity in October, we’ve got to be able to run these guys out then.”

“We cannot eat up these innings. We have a responsibility to our guys, the organization and fan base to let these guys go out and pitch late in the season.”

“If we can really play well in the next two months, I don’t know too many people who’d want to face this staff in a playoff situation.”

I like where Terry’s head is at…
