St. Lucie Mets 4, Palm Beach Cardinals 7
Pitching has been the story for St. Lucie in 2013 thus far. Everyone has praised the pitching staff as being one of the best in the minor leagues, and we’ve told tales of their dominating performances to start the season. That all came to a screeching halt last night.
Domingo Tapia, a consensus top fifteen Mets prospect, took the hill in yesterday’s game against Palm Beach. He didn’t make it out of the first inning. Tapia gave up a lead off triple, then walked four batters and threw two wild pitches. He managed to strike out one batter, but was removed from the game before he could retire the third out in the first inning.
Offensively, the Mets were led by T.J. Rivera, who had three hits and three runs batted in. Rivera raised his average to .360 on the year, and he now leads the team in hits, average, RBI, and on base percentage. I recently did a Prospect Pulse on Rivera, where I pointed out that he is an “under the radar” prospect, but he’s definitely making the case to get his name included in top prospect conversations.
Gilbert Gomez also had two hits in the loss.
