Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports that Noah Syndergaard threw a light bullpen session today. This was the first time he threw a baseball in his road to recovery from a strained ligament in his right index finger.
Dave Eiland said everything went as hoped and explained the next step in the process.
“It went fine. The next step is for him Tuesday, he will throw to batters.”
If everything goes to plan, the 25-year old is in line to return to the rotation on Sunday against the New York Yankees.
The right-hander was placed on the disabled list on Tuesday retroactive to May 26th. Jason Vargas pitched on three days rest and Seth Lugo made his first start of the season on Thursday as a result.
Syndergaard has made 11 starts this season in which he has a 4-1 record to go along with a 3.06 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings pitched.
When Syndergaard returns to the rotation, it is likely Lugo will move back to the bullpen where he has been very effective this season.
