Major League Baseball announced on Monday afternoon that Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard has been chosen as the National League Player of the Week.

Last Thursday against the Reds, Syndergaard became the first pitcher since Bob Welch in 1983 to pitch a complete game shutout while also homering for the only run of the game.

Syndergaard allowed just four hits and one walk in his nine innings of work. He also struck out a season-high 10 batters.

He also launched his second homer of the season, an opposite field blast that went 407 feet at Citi Field.

The right-hander came into the game struggling during the 2019 season as the as the outing lowered his ERA to a still unsightly 5.02 mark.
