The Long Island lefty, Steven Matz continued to dominate the opposition in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over the Washington Nationals. The Mets completed the series win as Matz made it look easy against their division rival.

Throwing 104 pitches, Matz, was able to pitch through eight scoreless innings. The start was his longest of the season as he allowed four hits while walking one and striking out seven. The 24 year-old rookie lowered his ERA to 2.36 on the season as he has quietly become an anchor to this staff.

“He’s going to get plenty of publicity,” Manager, Terry Collins said . “Don’t be fooled by that. He’s making a name for himself in this league and it’s going to get around here fast.”

Yesterday’s victory marked his seventh consecutive victory as his record improved to 7-1 on the season. He became the first Met since Steve Trachsel in 2006 was able to reach the same feat of winning seven consecutive games. During his stretch of undefeated starts, his ERA stands at a stellar 1.13. It’s safe to say that Matz is feeling pretty good right now and his confidence is at an all-time high.

“It’s pretty high. I just feel really comortable on the mound,” Matz said.

Which is a great thing to hear when two other Mets pitchers have recently openly stated of not feeling comfortable on the mound. Matz is priming himself for a rookie of the year type season if he keeps up the pace he is currently setting.

His career record to start is nothing short of amazing as he lands with an 11-1 record with an ERA of 2.32 in 14 starts. Matz’ career WHIP stands at 1.09 and is at just 0.99 this season. Matz has shown his ability to be anything short of an ace in his short time in the big leagues. Once thought of as the low man on a stud rotation, he is slowly cementing himself as one of the crown jewels of it.
