Wright and Harvey

Third baseman David Wright, let it be known yesterday that he and some of his teammates were not thrilled with how Matt Harvey dodged the media after his start on Tuesday night. Mike Puma of the New York Post spoke with the Mets captain about Harvey, his struggles, and his stand with the media.

Harvey is coming off another uneven performance after being beat up by the Nationals, giving up five runs in as many innings. His record has fallen to 3-7, with a bloated ERA of 6.08. He has not been able to figure out what ails him at the this point.

“Obviously, Harvey is going through a rough stretch, I think we’ve all been there,” Wright said. “With that being said, I think the consensus is we should all be accountable for what we do on the baseball field.”

“All of us like coming in here and talking when we have good games and a few of us, myself included, enjoy coming in here and talking when we don’t play well. Accountability is big and I think Harvey just had a bit of a lapse in judgement.”

The former ace of the staff was understandably upset after another outing in which he failed to take a step forward in what has been an unimaginably poor season for him.

Harvey, to his credit has stood at his locker after every drubbing this season to discuss it with the media, and it was not until Tuesday that he disregarded them and left the clubhouse. Wright states that he and his teammates, aren’t too thrilled with how he presented himself.

“A lot of us don’t necessarily agree with what he did, but we take this game very personally, and when we don’t play at a level we’re accustomed to, sometimes we make decisions that we regret.”

Harvey had left his catcher, Kevin Plawecki to answer for what was another disastrous start. Both Harvey and pitching coach, Dan Warthen were unavailable to the media after his last performance. Plawecki was put in a tough spot, but handled it well.

Harvey was given another vote of confidence from his manager, Terry Collins and the front office as he will be back out on the mound this Memorial Day against the Chicago White Sox in Citi Field.
