
Steve Cohen is the richest team owner in Major League Baseball with a net worth of $16 billion as of September 3, 2021.
Forbes released its list of all the sports team owners on the 2021 Forbes 400 list. Cohen nearly triples the wealth of the next MLB owner on the list and ranks as the fourth wealthiest among all team owners. Forty-four sports team owners are on the Forbes 400 list.
Cohen trails only Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer ($96.5 billion), Cleveland Cavaliers owner Daniel Gilbert ($39.9 billion), and Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera ($19 billion).
Cohen completed his purchase of the Mets one year ago for $2.4 billion. The combined fortune of the members who own controlling stakes in major sports teams is up 42% to 392.4 billion over the last year.

In March of 2021, Forbes placed the New York Yankees as the most valuable baseball franchise at $5.25 billion. The Dodgers ($3.57 billion), Red Sox ($3.46 billion), Cubs ($3.36 billion), and Giants ($3.17 billion) rounded out the top five most valuable. The Mets placed sixth at $2.45 billion.
