The New York Mets (26-31) defeated the Washington Nationals (23-34) at Nationals Park by a score of 3-2.

Pitching:

David Peterson was superb in the final outing of his rookie season against the Nationals tonight. He was brilliant through seven innings, only allowing one earned run while striking out four batters. Peterson ends the year in the lead for Mets wins with six. He is the first rookie to lead the Mets in wins since Dillon Gee in 2011. He finished the night with 107 pitches.

Justin Wilson pitched a quality eighth inning, allowing no runs.

Edwin Diaz got the save opportunity in the ninth inning bidding for his sixth save of the year. He only allowed one earned run to cross to make it a close 3-2 game. But, successfully secured the game to keep the Mets postseason hopes alive.

Offense:

Robinson Chirinos was the offensive player of the game. After his recent struggles with the bat, the Mets backstop went 2 for 3 powering a 2-run home run off of starter Patrick Corbin to give his team the lead. Chirinos brought in the third run of the game by singling into right-field, Cano came around to score.

Dominic Smith kept his incredible season going 3 for 5 at the plate with two doubles and a single boosting his average up to .322.

The lineup went 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position, with 12 left on base.

On Deck:

The New York Mets will play their second game against the Nationals on Friday and look to win two in a row. Rick Porcello (1-6, 5.46 ERA) will get his last start of the year and will look to end the year on a high note as they face multiple Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer (4-4, 3.67 ERA). The game time will be at 6:05 pm EST on SNY.
