There’s just something about the National League Central.
The Mets reached out to the Cardinals last week for permission to speak with St. Louis general manager Michael Girsch about the president of baseball operations positions. Girsch chose to stay with the Cardinals says Derrick S. Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Girsch’s denial of the position joins Brewers’ Matt Arnold as the second name to not have interest in the Mets opening today. The Mets are clearly ramping up their search for a president before the World Series ends. The only known candidates that haven’t rejected the job are Los Angeles Dodgers’ executive Josh Byrnes and internal candidates Ian Levin and Tommy Tanous.
