The Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by a score of 8-2 today at Roger Dean Stadium.

Pitching:

Steven Matz got the nod for today’s afternoon game against the Fish, and tossed two scoreless innings, yielding just three hits and striking out one.

Matz was followed in line by Marcos Molina, David Roseboom and Erik Goeddel who each chipped in an inning of scoreless work.

With the Mets up 1-0 in the sixth, Rafael Montero surrendered a homer to Giancarlo Stanton to make it a tied game.

Chase Bradford pitched a scoreless seventh, and while Josh Smoker had a rough frame in the eighth, the Marlins were only able to tack on one run as Smoker mitigated the damage.

Ben Rowen shut the door for the Mets in the ninth, allowing just a hit and recording one strikeout.

Offense:

The Mets erupted for eight runs this afternoon, the first of which came off a Travis d’Arnaud homer that broke the silence in the fourth to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.

In the eighth with the game tied at one, the Mets tallied six runs, highlighted by a two-run shot from L.J. Mazzilli.

In the ninth, the Mets got the run Smoker allowed back, as Gene Cone drew a walk with the bases loaded to make it a 8-2 game.

On deck:

The Mets are off Tuesday, but are back in action Wednesday with split squad games against the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox.

Robert Gsellman will toe the rubber for the Mets at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches against the ‘Stros and Noah Syndergaard will get the nod against the Sox at First Data Field.

The games are set to start at 1:05 p.m. and 1:10 p.m. respectively.
