My report from last night is being confirmed by multiple outlets, they are relaying that the details surrounding the 2020 MLB Draft have been solidified. The draft will still begin on June 10th but will be shortened to five rounds from the typical 40.

The Mets will make six picks, including a selection from the Philadelphia Phillies as compensation for losing Zack Wheeler.

During previous negotiations, a source noted the internal battle with executives and ownership regarding the idea of five versus 10 rounds, with five ultimately winning out.

As part of the agreement, I’m told teams will be able to utilize and manipulate the money as they choose regarding each pick’s assigned slot value.

At the conclusion of the draft, there will be a 48-hour window in which non-drafted players will not be able to be signed. Starting on June 13th those players will be able to sign with any team for a maximum of $20 thousand. There is no reported limit to how many non-drafted players a team may sign.

The draft signing period will end on August 1st, and the pre-draft MRI program for selected pitchers remains intact.
