St. Lucie 8, Bradenton 2

The St. Lucie offense came to play on Sunday – as they supported Angel Cuan by scoring in six different frames in their 8-3 victory over Bradenton.

The aforementioned Angel Cuan started this game for St. Lucie and went five solid innings, allowing just two runs while striking out eight. He was victimized by a solo home run and three singles in the fourth inning, where he allowed both his runs. Cuan allowed nine baserunners, through six hits, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch, but he danced out of trouble enough to allow only the two runs in the fourth. Jim Fuller and Hamilton Bennett combined to finish the game with two scoreless innings each.

St. Lucie was able to put a run on the board in the first two innings via an RBI ground-out by Rylan Sandoval and an error by Bradenton, which allowed a run to score and put them up 2-0 at the time. Another RBI ground-out, this one by T.J. Rivera, put the Mets up 3-0 at the top of the fourth.

Charles Thurber drillled an RBI double in the sixth – and Travis Taijeron hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to put the score at 5-2. St. Lucie did not need any more insurance, but Brian Harrison sent a two-run home run out of the park in the eighth which scored Matt Reynolds, who had reached base after an RBI single of his own right before Harrison’s at-bat.

Bradenton walked five batters and committed three errors – so it was good to see St. Lucie take advantage of all that.
