Mets starter Max Scherzer exited Saturday night’s start against the Washington Nationals, having only thrown 67 pitches. The right-hander walked down into the tunnel after motioning to Mets pitching coach Jeremy Hefner to follow him after exiting after the fifth inning.

Scherzer allowed a first-inning home run to Nationals second baseman Luis Garcìa. That was the only run he allowed for the night. His official line on the evening was  5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, and 5 K.

Scherzer has been fantastic all season for the Mets. Having him at the top of the rotation with Jacob deGrom this last month has given World Series aspirations to an organization chasing its first World Series since 1986.

Later in the evening, the Mets announced that Scherzer left the game with a fatigued left side.
