Terry Collins had a few things to say today about the state of the Mets. The Mets manager weighed in on Michael Cuddyer, and all the things he brings to a clubhouse, “We’re really glad he’s in our clubhouse now. We got a great clubhouse, to add another big piece of a guy who has some leadership skills I think will make a huge difference.”

Collins also weighed in on the possibility of Wilmer Flores being his Opening Day shortstop, “I have absolutely no issues if Wilmer Flores is the shortstop. He makes the routine play, the everyday play, that you have to make. Is he going to be that rangy shortstop? Probably not. He’s got arm strength, he’s got good hands, and the fact his bat is going to play is a huge difference.”

Collins is very enthusiastic about the upcoming season:

“Last year was a big year for us but we’re going into 2015 obviously with the addition of Cuddyer, getting Matt Harvey back, getting a healthy David Wright, we have a new hitting coach who I think is going to make a huge impact.”

“We’re not done, we’re going to make some more moves before spring training starts. Certainly I think 2015 is going to be a good year for us. There’s no question in my mind.”

This is Terry Collins. It’s who he is. Every Winter he says the Mets will be a playoff contender and I suppose that’s what you’d expect from your manager.

Between Sandy and Terry I swear my heads going to explode… Information overload. Lots of chatter, little substance…

Sandy says the 90 Wins are a real expectation next season and not just a challenge, while Collins is spouting off that the Mets are going to the postseason…

Memo to both of them – actions speak louder than words. This team needs to start winning and winning soon. When the euphoria of the Cuddyer signing fades away and we’re left with the team that we take into Opening Day, I want to see a team that we can confidently believe in. After six straight losing seasons we deserve a winning team.

Many Mets fans have been very patient, while many more have grown apathetic and weary of the losing. I heard a few times from various baseball reporters this week, that the Cuddyer signing signals that the rebuilding is over. I’m fine with that, now show us what you’ve built. Not with well coordinated sound bytes and media blitzes, but instead show us a team that can deliver a high caliber level of play on the baseball diamond.

Stick your 90 Win challenges and Playoff Predictions in your back pockets and start delivering on this so-called plan already. It’s time. That’s the bottom line.
