Today’s Trades
The Yankees traded for Twins’ starter Lance Lynn, sending Tyler Austin and minor-leaguer Luis Rijo back to New York, as well as $2 million dollars towards the $4.3 million he’s still owed (Jon Heyman, FanCred).
The Houston Astros acquired suspended closer Roberto Osuna from the Toronto Blue Jays and sent Ken Giles, Hector Perez, and David Paulino, all right-handed pitchers to Houston. Osuna is currently serving a 75 game suspension for an assault charge he picked up in Toronto in May. Giles was demoted to Triple-A earlier in July (Ken Rosenthal, The Athletic; Joel Sherman, New York Post).
The Seattle Mariners traded for Minnesota Twins reliever, Zach Duke. The Twins received Chase De Jong (RHP), minor-league outfielder Ryan Costello, and $75,000 cash in exchange for the 35-year-old lefty (Jon Heyman, FanCred; Joel Sherman, New York Post).
The M’s also acquired Adam Warren, right-handed reliever, from the Yankees in exchange for $1.25 million in international bonus pool money (Ken Rosenthal & Emily Waldon, The Athletic; Mark Feinsand, MLB.com).
Mets Rumors
Jon Heyman of FanCred reports that the first-place Phillies have shown interest in New York Mets outfielder, 37-year-old Jose Bautista. The Dominican native has hit .233/.382/.421 since being claimed off of waivers by the Mets in May.
Buster Olney of ESPN believes that the Mets will end up holding on to starting pitchers Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and could end up not having their needs met on the matter of Zack Wheeler, who has been receiving the lion’s share of attention from contending teams in need of a starter.
Andy Martino of SNY thinks that fan-favorite Wilmer Flores is more likely to remain a member of the Metropolitans after initial interest in the 27-year-old apparently waned.
Heyman also reports that the Mets “haven’t gotten the right offer yet” for catcher Devin Mesoraco. Mesoraco, 30, was acquired in the deal that sent Matt Harvey to the Cincinnati Reds in May. Heyman believes that Mesoraco “will clear waivers” after the deadline, so he could still be moved.
MLB Rumors
As per Heyman, Cleveland, Seattle, and the Yankees are interested in Marlins outfielder Cameron Maybin.
Again from Heyman, the Blue Jays that are “most likely to be dealt” are Curtis Granderson, Tyler Clippard, John Axford, Aaron Loup, and Marco Estrada, all free agents at the end of the season.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network cites a source suggesting that the New York Yankees and Phillies are both in on the 37-year-old Granderson.
The Yankees are viewed as an unlikely destination for Tampa Bay starter Chris Archer by Heyman, but Joel Sherman of the New York Post lists the Pirates, Braves, Padres, Brewers, and A’s as teams who have “touched base” on the 29-year-old Archer.
As per Buster Olney of ESPN, the Cleveland Indians have turned their attention to “adding a centerfielder” instead of “adding a second baseman like Brian Dozier and shifting Jason Kipnis to the outfield”.
As was reported earlier today, the Indians have spoken with the Washington Nationals about their slugging, free-agent-to-be, Bryce Harper.
