The Edwin Díaz Situation
The Mets remain open to reuniting with Edwin Díaz, though Will Sammon of the Athletic reports while Diaz is seeking a five-year contract the Mets prefer something closer to three years. The 31-year-old has a qualifying offer attached, which could complicate his market.
The Mets did not give Díaz’s camp advance notice of the Devin Williams signing, and with Williams now in the fold, the Mets have protected themselves whether Díaz returns or signs elsewhere.
Mets Players Reportedly Available via Trade
Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel released an offseason piece ahead of the Winter Meetings this weekend, and they put Jeff McNeil at an 80% chance to be traded with the Pirates, Giants and Royals listed as the best fits. The Mets are expected to trade him even if they need to eat some of his salary.
Kodai Senga is also listed as one of players who could be moved. The Mets have been gathering interest from other MLB clubs, though Senga has informed the team his preference would be to stay a Met for the 2026 season.
Mark Vientos joined Senga on the list as players who could be moved.

Trade Candidates Available League Wide
- Tarik Skubal is looking less likely to be traded, with Passan and Bob Nightengale both believing it’d be tough for a team to get the Cy Young Award winner.
- Ketel Marte is garnering interest from the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays, per Nightengale.
- Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu are expected to be moved at some point as their outfield has become much more crowded with the emergence of Roman Anthony, per Passan and McDaniel.
- Passan and McDaniel listed the Mets as fits for nearly half of their Top 25 free agents in the aforementioned article. Some players they were named as suitors for include Skubal, Marte, Byron Buxton, Joe Ryan, Duran, Pablo Lopez, Abreu and others.
- Wilson Contreras is more open to waiving his no-trade clause, per The Athletic‘s Katie Woo.
Other Hot Stove Rumors
- While the Mets have been mentioned as suitors for , Jon Morosi of MLBNetwork reported Monday that the San Francisco Giants are among teams checking in on Kyle Schwarber.
- Morosi also reports that the Blue Jays, Marlins, and Tigers are all involved in discussions for Rays closer Pete Fairbanks, who could sign before the winter meetings begin on Sunday.
