The Mets (74-59) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (53-81) by a score of 9-4 tonight at Citi Field.

Offense:

The Mets got on the board first tonight, as in the second inning, David Wright singled to lead off the frame, and was driven in on a double by Kelly Johnson.

The very next batter, Ruben Tejada, hit a shallow fly ball to right field which bounced in front of Phillies’ outfielder Domonic Brown, who flipped into the stands in the process trying to reach the ball, causing it to roll all the way to the wall.

Tejada was chugging around the bases the whole way, and would become the first Mets player to hit an inside-the-park home run since Angel Pagan in 2010.

In the third inning, Curtis Granderson singled and was driven in two batters later on a double from Daniel Murphy. This would prove costly, however, as Murphy would leave the game with a quad issue.

Later in the inning, Michael Conforto ripped his fifth home run of the year on a line drive over the left field fence to make it 6-0 at the time.

In the fifth inning, after the Phillies had cut the deficit in half, the Mets tacked on another run with the bases loaded on a ground out from Ruben Tejada.

Tejada would drive in another run in the 7th inning on a single up the middle to score Kelly Johnson, to make it 8-4 Mets.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Yoenis Cespedes slammed his 28th home run of the year to dead central.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey got the ball for the Mets tonight, and though he didn’t have his best stuff, he still managed to go 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, while also striking out nine. For once, Harvey got run support, and increased his record to 12-7.

Sean Gilmartin finished off the seventh, lowering his ERA on the season to 2.17, which was followed by a clean eighth inning from Tyler Clippard.

Addison Reed pitched his second game as a Met, and finished off the game as he sealed the series victory for the Amazin’s.

On deck:

The Mets are off tomorrow, but travel to Miami for a weekend series against the Marlins. Jacob deGrom (12-7, 2.32 ERA) gets the ball for the opener, and takes on Tom Koehler (8-13, 4.12 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
