During Thursday’spress conference, Mets manager Luis Rojas met with the media following Francisco Lindor to discuss Lindor’s extension and Thursday’s game being postponed.

Rojas on Francisco Lindor’s Contract Extension:

“I’m excited to know about the contract extension and commitment,” Rojas said on Lindor and the Mets making the deal final on Wednesday.

Rojas called Lindor a winning player and a great player. “We’ve seen it on and off the field, he’s a winning player.”

Rojas also said Lindor is a very outspoken person on and off the field and that he’s influenced a lot of guys to upgrade their game or the way they represent themselves.

“He always talks about winning and creating opportunities.” Rojas stated that Lindor’s personality and demeanor is consistent every day and that makes him special. “This is a guy that’s determined to win, that’s all he talks about.”

In closing, Rojas said the Mets have a lot of leaders in the clubhouse, but Lindor is one of the best leaders he has seen at his age (27).

“He just wants to get everyone better. It’s a winning mentality.”

Rojas on Thursday’s Cancellation

Rojas also discussed the opening day matchup between the Mets and Nationals being postponed on Thursday. He expressed that he is confident the opening day matchup will be played on Saturday.

“We’re doing everything we need to do to protect each other,” said Rojas, who stated they found out about “a positive case” (among the Nationals) on Wednesday and knew contract tracing was being done. He said he got a call from Zach Scott Thursday morning that there was a second positive and more close contact.

The Mets did workouts on Wednesday and Thursday to stay ready.

Rojas said it will still be DeGrom, Stroman, and Peterson for the first three games.

As of right now, Saturday’s game is still scheduled for 4 pm, however it could be changed to 1 pm. They are waiting on official word from Major League Baseball.
