The New York Mets made a few moves ahead of tonight’s matchup against the Baltimore Orioles in Camden Yards.
Recently acquired Ariel Jurado has been recalled from the team’s Alternate Training Site in Brooklyn and the right-hander will start tonight and make his Mets debut.
A former top prospect, the Mets acquired Jurado from the Texas Rangers last month, in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
Jurado made his major league debut in 2018, compiling a 5.93 ERA, a 5.01 FIP and a 1.54 WHIP in 12 appearances including eight starts.
Last season saw no improvement for Jurado, posting a 5.81 ERA and a 5.10 FIP in 18 starts and 32 total appearances. He was designated for assignment and has yet to pitch in 2020.
To make room for Jurado, RHP Hunter Strickland has been designated for assignment and infielder Eduardo Núñez has been transferred to the 45-Day Injured List.
In other news, RHP Walter Lockett was claimed off waivers by the Season Mariners after being designated by the Mets.
Also, Todd Frazier, Robinson Chirinos and Miguel Castro are not expected to be active for the Mets today. They were acquired before yesterday’s trade deadline.
