Batter Up
The Mets absolutely pounded the Marlins today led by shortstop Jose Reyes who batted third and hit a grand slam as well as a solo home run to cap off a big six RBI day. (We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy!)
Reyes wasn’t the only one swinging the lumber today as Carlos Beltran had a two run blast and three RBI’s, and David Wright and Carlos Delgado each had two hits.
Even Luis Castillo continued to impress with a single, two walks and a stolen base.
Here’s The Pitch
Oliver Perez started and pitched two hitless innings while striking out three. In fact, the Mets allowed just one hit by Dillon Gee through the first seven innings. Ironically, that one runner, Cameron Maybin, was then picked off. Jon Switzer and Nelson Figueroa followed and pitched well, before giving way to Heriberto Ruelas and Kyle Snyder who closed it out to preserve the three hit shutout.
Between The Lines
Two very impressive wins in two games, sure is a great way to put any doubts about next season to rest. I’m firmly convinced that Gangsta Ball is a thousand times better than Willie Ball. I’m also gonna keep my mouth zipped whenever Jerry Manuel suggests another insane batting order. I bow down to his Yoda-esque wisdom and I am in awe of his Jedi mind tricks. Give a game ball to Professor Reyes.

Manuel on Reyes: “He’s running at a hip-hop level. I think it calms him down a little bit. He’s still the quintessential leadoff guy.”
Next Up
The Mets take on the Italian WBC team tomorrow at 10:00 AM and the Cardinals at 1:10 PM. Mike Pelfrey and Livan Hernandez will get the starts.
