Jose Reyes hit two home runs in his chase for the batting title, and Chris Capuano pitched six strong innings in the Mets 4-3 win against the Reds

Game Notes

Chris Capuano went out today, and had his strikeout stuff today. Capuano went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits including two longballs, both to lefties, while walking one and striking out nine. Capuano has been very good for the most part all year, and if he isn’t lights-out, he is at least consistent.

The bullpen of Beato, Byrdak and Acosta came in to hold the game in check, striking out six in three innings. Beato has looked fatigued later in the season, Byrdak seems to be earning that extension and Acosta is solidifying a spot in the Mets bullpen. However, the wild-card has been Bobby Parnell. Sent out to get one out, allowed a run-tying RBI double to Juan Francisco

The offense today was fairly alive, striking hard against soft-tossing Bronson Arroyo. Jose Reyes sent two absolute shots out of the yard, bringing his average to .336 on the year, and as of the writing of this article in the NL lead for the title. David Wright & Josh Thole also chipped in RBI singles in the first and sixth respectively.

The offense has been consistent if not spectacular in its execution, making starters throw a lot of pitches, advancing runners and trying to win with good hitting.

Jason Pridie – 0 for 5 with a strikeout, rough first season for Jason and he should begin next year in AAA.

Mike Baxter – 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout. Baxter has been similar to Pridie, except he doesnt seem to be able to play CF.

Willie Harris – 0 for 6 with two strikeouts. Willie has had an on and off year, but has hit for very little extra-base power.

Turning Point

When Parnell blew the game in the ninth.

Player Of The Game

Jose Reyes – 3 for 6 with two runs, two RBI and a stolen base. If for no other reason for most of the season, Jose Reyes has been the reason to watch the Mets.
