The New York Mets have announced that Terry Collins’ option for the 2013 season had been picked up.

“I’m very pleased with the job that Terry has done,” Alderson said. “Tremendous work ethic. Extremely knowledgeable. Great baseball man, but also knowledgeable about players in our system. Communicates well. Has just done a terrific job in leading our team in sometimes difficult circumstances.”

Alderson also said that he would meet with Collins on Thursday to decide on the coaching staff for 2012.

Dan Warthen returning in 2012 could be the the number one topic of discussion on Thursday. There’s a good chance he could be dismissed. Warthen was not Collins’ pick, but he was inherited as a part of Collins’ coaching staff after he was hired.

Congratulations to Terry who has done a fine job navigating through the muck and mire of this season. From the way he handled the Beltran to right field tempest in the Spring, to the way his team continued to show some fight right to the end of the season, Collins has done a first rate job.
