Metsmerized’s own Michael Mayer is reporting that the Mets are unlikely to acquire Starling Marte or anyone with a notable salary in a trade without shedding salary.

That would mean, as pointed out by Mayer, that the team would likely have to shed one of Jed Lowrie‘s or Jeurys Familia‘s contracts first or in the same deal to bring someone like Marte aboard.

Marte, 31, is set to make $11.5 million in 2020 and has a club option for the 2021 season that would cost $12.5 million. Meanwhile, Lowrie is making $11.5 million this upcoming season too and Familia is will be receiving $11 million in 2020.
