Addison Reed has been one of the best relievers in the Major Leagues since the New York Mets acquired on him August 30, 2015 for Miller Diaz and Matt Koch.
The Mets have multiple trade chips in Lucas Duda, Curtis Granderson, Jay Bruce, Neil Walker, Jerry Blevins and Reed. However, Reed could bring back the best return with the way he’s pitched after being acquired by the Mets with the premium put on late inning relievers.
In 137 games spanning 134.2 innings with the Mets, Reed has a sparkling 2.07 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 2.40 FIP and an incredible 6.52 SO/W.
His 134.2 innings are the fourth most among relievers in that span. His ERA is fourth among 71 pitchers that have thrown at least 100 innings since the day he was traded. His 6.52 SO/W is fifth among relievers during that pan as well.
Point being that Reed has proven to me one of the most reliable relievers in baseball while being one of the most heavily used at the same time.
This season Reed has been forced into the closer role with the suspension and injury to Jeurys Familia. He has 14 saves with a 2.59 ERA, 1.10 WHIP with 42 strikeouts compared to only five walks in 41.2 innings.
Reed has shown with the Mets that he can pitch in any situation which is part of the reason why MLBTR recently ranked him as their No. 3 trade chip for the upcoming deadline.
In recent years, we’ve seen teams pay hefty prices for premium relievers despite being pending free agents. In a perfect world the Mets would trade Reed for a high-end prospect or two then re-sign with the Mets this coming offseason.
